Job Title: Senior Cost Accountant / Accounting Manager
Summary
The Senior Cost Accountant / Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing cost and inventory accounting processes, fixed assets, lease accounting, and ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. This role partners closely with operations and leadership to analyze costs, improve controls, and support business decision-making within an ERP-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee cost accounting functions, including standard costing, variance analysis, and cost allocations
- Maintain accurate inventory accounting, including reconciliation, valuation, reserves, and cycle count support
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and asset reconciliations
- Manage lease accounting in compliance with ASC 842, including lease schedules, journal entries, and disclosures
- Support month-end and year-end close, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
- Serve as a key accounting lead within the ERP system, ensuring data integrity, process improvements, and system optimization
- Prepare and review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Provide financial insights and analysis to management related to costs, margins, and operational performance
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
- Mentor and provide guidance to accounting staff as applicable
- Assist with special projects and continuous improvement initiatives across accounting and finance operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus on cost accounting and inventory
- Hands-on experience with fixed assets and lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (manufacturing or operations-focused environments preferred)
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial reporting and analysis
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMA certification
- Prior experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or operational environment
- Previous experience in a lead or supervisory accounting role
